How to play the Single Drag Tap

A drag onto an accent, then a tap — alternating hands.

About the Single Drag Tap

The Single Drag Tap is one of the 40 PAS rudiments, in the Drag family. Drag rudiments place two quick grace notes (a ruff) ahead of the main note.

How to practice it

Start slow enough to play it perfectly evenly, counting out loud or with the metronome. Keep your strokes relaxed and your accents clear. Once it's clean, raise the tempo a few BPM at a time using the speed trainer — clean and slow always beats fast and sloppy.

The Single Drag Tap is part of Drumolo's free trainer. Open it, choose this rudiment, set a slow tempo and let the metronome grade your timing.
