The 40 rudiments › Roll family › Single Stroke Four
Four alternating strokes resolving onto an accent, felt in triplets.
The Single Stroke Four is one of the 40 PAS rudiments, in the Roll family. Roll rudiments build a sustained sound out of singles, doubles, or buzzes.
R = right hand, L = left hand.
Start slow enough to play it perfectly evenly, counting out loud or with the metronome. Keep your strokes relaxed and your accents clear. Once it's clean, raise the tempo a few BPM at a time using the speed trainer — clean and slow always beats fast and sloppy.
The Single Stroke Four is part of Drumolo's free trainer. Open it, choose this rudiment, set a slow tempo and let the metronome grade your timing.
