How to play the Flam Tap

A flam followed by a tap with the same hand — continuous 16ths.

About the Flam Tap

The Flam Tap is one of the 40 PAS rudiments, in the Flam family. Flam rudiments add a soft grace note struck just before the main note for a fatter accent.

How to practice it

Start slow enough to play it perfectly evenly, counting out loud or with the metronome. Keep your strokes relaxed and your accents clear. Once it's clean, raise the tempo a few BPM at a time using the speed trainer — clean and slow always beats fast and sloppy.

The Flam Tap is part of Drumolo's free trainer. Open it, choose this rudiment, set a slow tempo and let the metronome grade your timing.
